Cultural Consultation Service (CSS) Outline for Cultural Formulation
The CCS at the Jewish General Hospital, Montreal, Canada uses a cultural consultation approach to addressing cultural diversity in mental health services. The service has developed two cultural assessment and formulation guidelines based on the DSM-IV Outline of Cultural Formulation (OCF). The guidelines are designed to help practitioners gather, organise and integrate information pertinent to conducting a cultural consultation. Two versions are available: Version A and Version B.
Culture, Context and Psychiatric Diagnosis: A Manual for Interviewing According to the Cultural Formulation in DSM-IV
The Transcultural Centre in Stockholm in Sweden has developed a manual with guidelines for conducting clinical interviews to explore individuals’ illness perspective, social and cultural context, and produce a cultural formulation according to DSM-IV-TR. It includes suggested interview probes to elicit information for a cultural formulation following the DSM-IV guidelines.
Brief Cultural Interview
The Brief Cultural Interview 2009 (BCI-09) is an anthropologically revised version of the cultural formulation that includes specific questions covering the four categories of the Outline of Cultural Formulation. The BCI-09 was developed by Dutch transcultural psychiatrist, Hans Rohlof, and can be used after a free registration.
